The last Farmers’ Market of the season was held on Saturday October 4th. It was a cold and blustery day, but our faithful customers came one last time to celebrate Niagara’s harvest with us. We were entertained by local musician Cory Cruise; he did have to take more breaks than usual, just to warm his fingers to strum his guitar!
The first annual Harvest Celebration Pie Competition was held, and a trio of local chefs tasted their way through every entry, and scored each pie with their discerning taste buds. Bragging rights and first place for her Pumpkin Pie went to Mary Chiroco, second place for her Cherry Pie went to Gail Poulsen, and third place for her Apple Pie also went to Gail Poulsen.
Thank you to Pastry Chef Catherine O’Donnell of Willow Cakes & Pastries, Chef David Watt of The Garrison House, and Chef Adam Hynam-Smith of El Gastronomo Vagabundo for sacrificing their time to taste all of the incredible entries!
We are already looking forward to next season’s Farmers Market and SupperMarket. Watch for updates on our website, on our Facebook page, and in the Town Crier in Spring 2015.
