What am I thankful for? I am thankful for another wonderful season at The Market @ The Village. I am thankful for all of our devoted farmers and vendors, our wonderful customers, our generous sponsors, for the support of our local media, for our talented musicians, our local wineries, breweries, and cideries, and especially thankful for our community. Every one of you is an intricate part of our Market community, and we would not be a thriving local gathering place on Wednesdays and Saturdays without you. Our generous sponsors give unselfishly every season to make the SupperMarket and Farmers’ Market a possibility; John and Liz Hawley, The Wineries of Niagara on the Lake, DF Design Build, and the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake; a heartfelt thank you goes out to each and every one of you.
The last Farmers’ Market of the season was held on Saturday October 7th. What started out to be a wet day, turned into a beautiful sunny, warm event, with many locals stopping by to pick up items for their Thanksgiving get togethers. The third annual Harvest Celebration Pie Competition was held, and celebrity judges Lord Mayor Pat Darte, pastry chef Kit Coppoline of Scratch Bakery, and young pie lover Liam Cadeau tasted their way through every entry, and scored each pie with their discerning taste buds. Bragging rights and first place for her perfectly delicious Pecan Pie went to Sarah Macdougall, who’s Nana taught her everything she knows! Thank you to our judges for sacrificing their time to taste all of the incredible entries! The winner of our locally inspired gift basket, containing items generously donated by our vendors was regular market-goer Dan Reid.
