FARMERS MARKET THIS SATURDAY AUGUST 21st

A few weeks, ago, Rose Bartel from Bartel Farms contacted Newark Neighbours to donate all that they had left at the end of the day when Farmers’ Market closed.  Beginning Saturday, July 31 Newark Neighbours food bank manager Cindy Grant  came to the Market just before 1 p.m. to collect their produce. She was overwhelmed with the generosity of so many of the vendors, and left that day with four large flats, plus several bags, from the Bartels, Olsen Farms and Bee Inspired Farms. And this past Saturday, she again was blessed to receive even more from those three vendors plus Gerhard Klassen. The pictures above are of Newark Neighbours fridges, stocked with local goodness!  Our farmers truly care about the community that they live, work, and farm in.  We are fortunate.

It’s hard to believe that there are only three weekends left before the kids head back to school; if your kids are like many kids that I know, they are itching to get back into the classroom!  Enjoy the last few Saturdays of August shopping @ Farmers Market; we are still overflowing with lovely, ripe, local fruits and veggies.  Although we are small market, you will find a bit of everything good that Niagara has to offer.  In addition to many varieties of Niagara-grown produce, we have jams, jellies, pickles, juices, freshly baked goods, pies, maple syrup, eggs, honey, wine, hand-tied floral bouquets, gift items, hot coffee, and delicious breakfast and lunch to go, and also heat-and-serve dinner options.

Our 100% local market means that certain things are only available at certain times of the year.  When you choose to eat seasonally, you will be taking advantage of nutrient packed, tasty, versatile fruits and veggies.  Right now, one of our favourite root vegetables is in season; BEETS! According to healthline.com, Beetroot (Beta vulgaris) is a root vegetable also known as red beet, table beet, garden beet, or just beet. Packed with essential nutrients, beetroots are a great source of fiber, and vitamins & minerals. Beetroots and beetroot juice have been associated with numerous health benefits, including improved blood flow, lower blood pressure, and increased exercise performance.

Whether you prefer them raw, pickled, roasted, or boiled, beets are a versatile, healthy, colourful vegetable to add to your plate. Check out these marvelous recipe ideas found at: https://www.tasteofhome.com/collection/our-best-beet-recipes/

Everything local; everything Niagara!  Enjoy shopping outdoors at the Market for a few more warm mornings before there is an autumn nip in the air.

Join us at Farmers’ Market every Saturday morning from 8 am to 1 pm until October 9th, located at 111 Garrison Village Dr (in front of the Garrison House restaurant)
