Farmers’ Market for Saturday August 27th

THIS SATURDAY AUGUST 27th

This past Saturday, we held the first annual Tomato Day @ The Market.  With sampling, tomato foods, and tomato inspired items, it was a real success!  At noon, to the tune of “That’s Amore” Liam from Sweets & Swirls let his sisters pelt him with over-ripe tomatoes, and we drew a winner for the wonderful Market Gift Basket, which was overflowing with items donated by our vendors.  The lucky winners were long-time Market supporters Rob & Paula Wilson of Virgil (actually, their dog Benji’s name was written on the winning ballot!) We are looking forward to an even bigger event in 2023.

It is hard to believe that this is the second last weekend before the kids head back to school.  But Niagara fruits and veggies are still “growing strong” and the Farmers’ Market will be open right through until October 8th this year to ensure that local goodness is available to all for Thanksgiving!  Our farmers tables are colourful with the bounty of the season, and our vendors have items to compliment the Niagara freshness. Pick up local eggs, honey, maple syrup, jams & jellies, cheese, and other items to make your meal-planning complete.  We also offer wonderful products for home and garden, gift items, and bath products.  By supporting Farmers’ Market, you are supporting local small businesses.

One of the items readily available from our farmers at this time of the year is Zucchini.  Zucchini is certainly one of the most versatile veggies going!  It lends itself well to savoury dishes, or adds moistness to baked goods and desserts. Zucchini is a summer squash, and although it is considered a vegetable, it is botanically classified a s a fruit, and comes in several different varieties which range in colour from deep yellow to dark green.  Among some of the health benefits, zucchini is high in antioxidants, contributes to healthy digestion, is low in calorie density, so may help with weight loss by helping you to feel full, and is so versatile that it is easy to add to your diet.

Whether you choose to bake it, grill it, or fry it, check out these mouthwatering recipes from the folks at Country Living https://www.countryliving.com/food-drinks/g2524/zucchini-recipes/

Our Farmers’ Market vendors hope to see you on Saturday mornings between 8 am to 1 pm until October 8th, located at 111 Garrison Village Dr (in front of the Garrison House Restaurant)
