How fortunate we are to live in the heart of peach country! Did you know that peaches are the perfect snack food for losing weight? A peach makes you feel full and keeps you from overeating. The bonus: one peach only contains about 35-50 calories and no fat! In addition to this wonderfully juicy fruit, Saturday’s Farmers’ Market will have plums, apricots, berries, cherries, lots of green leafy veggies, corn, beets, and countless other fruits and vegetables. And what better way to enjoy Niagara’s bounty every day of the year, other than in Niagara jams, jellies, pickles, and preserves? We have a huge selection available every Saturday! Stop by this Saturday to enjoy live entertainment by Tim Atherton & Mike Dixon, and a pastry from Willow or Sweet Potato Johnny, or a full-out breakfast from Lakeland Meats or Lovin’ from the Oven. Did you know that when you purchase a gourmet coffee from Pay It Forward Gourmet Café, they donate a portion of the proceeds to Heart Niagara, and also support a variety of other local foundations? So know that you Saturday morning coffee is helping to benefit our community also!
Kids bored? Bring them to the Market this Saturday for lots of FREE fun! We will have a Lego Movie bouncy house, a terrarium-making workshop with the NOTL Museum, decorate your own cookie with Willow Cakes & Pastries, make a Lavender Wand with Garden City Essentials, and Cheerleading Demonstrations with Niagara Cheerleading.
Our food vendors will be offering special “kid oriented” food choices, such as Nutella/banana waffles and French toast, chocolate chip pancakes, hot dogs, and Oreo and Birthday Cake ice cream!
Of course, all of our regular vendors will be set up and ready to serve the adults also!
Meet you @ The Market.
Farmers’ Market tomorrow 8 am to 1 pm. It is finally beginning to look and feel like summer is here! The ripe Niagara strawberries and cherries (yes…cherries!) available at this Saturdays’ Farmers’ Market add a delightful splash of red to the Market scenery! Because we are a true farmers’ market, and sell only 100% local produce, grown by 100% local farmers, we must remind ourselves to be patient while waiting for our home-grown produce, and with the cool wet weather, things are a little behind this year. Our line-up of farmers continues to grow weekly, as the early crops ripen. Alongside strawberries and cherries, you will find asparagus, garlic scapes, chard, herbs, radishes, and more. Every week, you will be able to find award-winning jams, baked goods, delicious coffee, fresh-cut flowers, pickles, and mouth-watering breakfast items.
Heads up for the yoga people- unfortunately Yoga on the Grass with Paula has been cancelled this week, but Paula will be back next week at 10 am ready to help you to start your day off right!
Meet you @ The Market!
With a successful opening week behind us, we look forward a fantastic year at The Market. This Saturday at the Farmers’ Market, you will find fresh rhubarb, asparagus, greens, radishes, and a few other early crops. As the weeks go by, you will be seeing more farmers joining our line-up as their produce ripens. Being a “true” farmers’ market means 100% local produce sold by our Niagara farmers. Sometimes this means being a little patient while waiting to eat the best fruit and veggies that Niagara grows. But I know it is worth the wait! Our entertainment this Saturday is Tim Atherton. Grab a cup of superb coffee from Pay It Forward Gourmet Café, a pastry from Willow, or a farm-fresh egg breakfast sandwich from Lakeland, pull up a seat at a picnic table, and enjoy the music. As always, jams, jellies, pickles, soaps and lotions, fresh cut flowers, and much more will be available from our vendors. Don’t forget that we are offering “Yoga on the Grass” with Paula every Saturday at 10 am. This is a drop-in class with no commitment; just $5 weekly to join in. Show up a few minutes before the class with your yoga mat and have a relaxing start to your weekend! Also on this Saturday from 10-11, Heart Niagara will be offering a free CPR refresher course. This drop-in session is an opportunity to refresh your skills, and potentially save someone’s life. Heart Niagara will be holding a CPR certification course at The Market on Saturday June 14th. Registration is required for the certification course. For more information, please contact Heart Niagara at 905-358-5552 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Join us at the Market on September 28th! Our vendors are open for business from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., featuring pumpkin pies, apple treats, sweet potato items, plenty of seasonal fruits, veggies, baked goods, preserves, and so much more. It looks like we are going to have nothing but sunshine this tomorrow, so join us for a perfect morning of meeting up with friends, enjoying a bite of breakfast, and supporting your local farmers.
Thanksgiving is two short weeks away, and Ken and Rose from Bartel Organics will again be selling their beautiful pumpkin centerpieces for your Thanksgiving table. Stop in to pre-order this Saturday; these beautiful decorations, which are priced at $30 will be ready for pick up the morning of Saturday October 12th.
For the next two Saturdays, The Market @ The Village will be holding a food drive to benefit Newark Neighbours. Please drop off your non-perishable items in the food bin under the welcome tent at Saturday morning Farmers’ Market and help to make Thanksgiving a special time for those less fortunate.
Also tomorrow, available to answer your questions will be two community groups; Red Roof Retreat, located in Niagara-on-the-Lake provides quality recreational, educational and respite services to children, youth and young adults with special needs and their families. We also welcome back the Master Gardeners group; they will be happy to answer all of your questions regarding fall yard clean up, winter preparation, and thinking towards spring.

Have you ever reflected on how fortunate we are to live in such a bountiful area? A stop in at the Farmers’ Market this Saturday morning surely is a good reminder. With stalls overflowing with juicy peaches, plums, apricots, tomatoes, zucchini, corn, baked goods, prepared soups, flowers, jams and jellies, and so much more, there truly is something for everyone. Our food vendors are busy prepping for their faithful customers who stop by every weekend for a bite of breakfast or lunch. And the welcoming aroma of fresh brewed coffee beckons you to linger and visit with friends at the colourful picnic tables.
